Brandon Sanderson Now Listed as a WGA Member After Turning In Mistborn Script

On July 28, Brandon Sanderson announced on Instagram that he’d finished the first draft of the Mistborn screenplay. In an October 7 interview with Collider, he confirmed he’d turned it in to Apple, and said, “Apple’s had it, and they’ve given me their feedback.” He’s now on revisions.
Sanderson now appears in the Writers Guild of America’s member directory. We’ve been checking the directory regularly at Watch and Find Out, and he wasn’t listed until last week.
His profile lists his representation: two agents at WME. No projects are attached to his name.
The timing lines up with the Mistborn screenplay. We can’t confirm that’s what qualified him, and the profile doesn’t say. WGA membership is earned through units of writing work for Guild signatory companies, and Apple is a signatory. A feature screenplay is worth 24 units, enough on its own for full membership. On IMDb Pro, the only other credit that could plausibly count is The Stormlight Archive, which he’s listed as creating. He told Collider he’s writing that one too, probably with a writing partner. Everything else on his IMDb page is book adaptations, producing, or video games, which don’t earn units.
His progress tracker on brandonsanderson.com now lists “Mistborn Screenplay 2.0” at 0%.
Don’t expect the movie soon. “I would imagine this is still many years off,” Sanderson told IGN in September. After revisions comes the search for a director, which he called the most important decision ahead, and he expects filming to be a few years out, with visual effects possibly adding up to two more years before release.
We’ll keep watching it at Watch and Find Out.
