The writers’ room for Peacock’s Dungeon Crawler Carl just got bigger. Writer Jake Lawler has joined the show as story editor. On September 24, Lawler posted an Instagram story showing a door sign that reads “Dungeon Crawler Jake” with “Story Editor” at the bottom. It matches the signs in the photo Joshua Levy and Prathi Srinivasan posted two days earlier.

Lawler played football at UNC where he majored in Broadcast Journalism before starting his writing career. He has two main TV credits. He was a staff writer on Disney+’s The Crossover. More recently he co-wrote for the horror anthology Bite Size Terror with his brother, Conor Lawler.

That horror credit is interesting since Matt Dinniman has said horror is the base of everything he writes. On his website, he answers whether he knew DCC was going to be a horror: “Everything I write will always be horror. I have never, ever tried to hide this. No matter how stupid or dumb or funny I try to be, the base of everything I write is based in horror.”

That brings the writers’ room to six people identified so far: showrunners Chris Yost and Eric Heisserer, writers Levy, Srinivasan and Lawler, and a writers’ room assistant.

Where things stand

  • Fuzzy Door lists the show as an eight-episode season and expects to be in production by spring 2027.
  • Production Weekly lists New Zealand with an April 2027 start, and an NBCUniversal-owned company called Princess Donut Limited was registered in Auckland in September. (our story)
  • The only announced casting is Jeff Hays as the voice of Princess Donut.
  • Carl casting has yet to be announced, and there’s no premiere date yet.
