Dungeon Crawler Carl Heads to New Zealand, Where NBCUniversal Just Registered “Princess Donut Limited”

Film and TV data source Production Weekly’s October 8 issue lists New Zealand as the location for Peacock’s Dungeon Crawler Carl, with a start date of April 2027. Earlier this year, the May 28 and June 25 issues both listed Cape Town, South Africa.
There’s a second record in support of likely filming in New Zealand. On September 2, 2026, a company called Princess Donut Limited was incorporated in Auckland. Its sole shareholder is NBCU Television Holding LLC, and New Zealand’s Companies Office lists Comcast Corporation as its ultimate holding company. The company’s director is NBCUniversal’s finance director for Australasia. Peacock is NBCUniversal’s streaming service, and NBCUniversal is owned by Comcast.
For those not completely obsessed with Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl series, Princess Donut is a fan-favorite main character and partner in crime to Carl, the series’ titular character.
The filings don’t say what Princess Donut Limited is for. Our read is that filming is likely in New Zealand. Productions commonly register special purpose vehicles in the countries where they film, to apply for incentives and to handle accounting, taxes and contracts, among other things. New Zealand’s international screen production rebate lists a “Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)” requirement: “Applicants must be a New Zealand entity specifically set up for the production (exceptions are available)” (NZFC).
The April date fits what Universal Global Television’s Kelsey Balance said at a New York Comic Con panel hosted by Dinniman: “Then we’ll start actual real prep in the new year and shooting next year.” Balance also said the team is already “into soft prep,” hiring department heads, line producers and production designers (Variety). Production Weekly start dates are targets, though, and they can move.
